Uhut, 24 November 1836
As I am convinced that you will be helpful to my parents
should they have any financial or other needs, I am less concerned
about the matter than when I left Kajaani. Please remind them
to buy flax and hemp at the winter fair so that they will
not run out in the next year. They should also buy food, meat
and the like. The tax collector certainly will have plenty
of money by then so he should be able to give them what they
need. My trip has gone extremely well thus far, although I
have no idea what it will be like from here on. After leaving
Kajaani, I came to Säräisniemi and stayed there a few days.
I then went on through woodlands to Puolanka, where I stayed
a couple of days at the vicarage. I continued from there to
Hyrynsalmi, where I stayed with the deacon for three days.
From there I continued to Kianta in the beginning of October.
Akseli came on the 8th and I did not leave until the 16th.
I first went 50 km by boat to the Russian border. I think
I crossed the border on the 20th and since then I have spent
my time in these villages adding to my collections. I have
enjoyed myself thus far, but I rather doubt I will have such
an enjoyable time henceforth, since I'll be left alone. Cajan,
with whom I have been travelling thus far, is leaving to return
to Kajaani. I, on the other hand, plan to go on. More later.
All the best in the meanwhile.
