The
village of Latvajärvi is located in the frontier zone between
Finland and Russia and for this reason is not, as yet, accessible
to tourists.
Now that the revitalization of Viena is under way, a number of
families have moved back to the village and, thanks to an initiative
of the Folklore Villages Project, it has been electrified. The power
comes from Finland, a distance of just over 5 km, for the nearest
connection to the Russian national grid is over 35 km away.
A tasouna (Orthodox chapel) is being built in the village
at the site and in the style of the original one, and a museum is
being set up to commemorate the generations of bards in the Perttunen
family.
