The vicarage in Kuhmo became familiar to Lönnrot because of his many visits. At the beginning of the sixth field trip he was delayed there for a couple of weeks owing to problems with road conditions and the late arrival of a consignment of vaccine. The time was passed, for example by playing cards with the book keeper, sheriff and vicar of the parish.
