If you would like to visit the Viena Folklore Villages,
please contact the Juminkeko Foundation.

Address: Kontionkatu 25, 88900 KUHMO, Finland
Tel. +358-8-653 0670 Fax. +358-8-653 0673
Email: info(at)juminkeko.fi

Contacting the Foundation will provide you with more information on the villages. During 2002, we can only serve tourists in Finnish and Russian. However, the Cultural Centre Juminkeko is able to provide information about Viena Karelia in a number of languages. We also aim to provide more services during the trips in English in the future.

After a registration for a trip Juminkeko will forward the information about a passenger to the Kainuu Travel Agency. The travel Agency will then send a letter to the passanger and instructions how to manage to obtain a visa and to pay the trip. Instruction about the obligatory travel insurance to Russia is included as well.

A visa is necessary if you plan to visit Viena. A visa application form will be sent to all those would like to make reservations. You need to send us back the filled application form, your passport ( the visa is a sticker that will be sticked on the passport ) and send along two passport photos as well. The passport will be send back to you.

As processing applications takes time, make sure to apply for your visa well before your trip. We recommend that you send in your completed application at least six weeks before your trip begins.

The Arhippa Perttunen Foundation trips are designed for small groups. The delicate natural environment of Viena and the unique cultural and historical sites can not withstand mass tourism.

Accommodations in Viena homes.

The trips include room and board, which include meals, bedclothes and a daily sauna. (Karelians do not use large bath towels, so, if you feel that one is necessary, bring your own.)

Viena villages do not have modern conveniences.

We recommend that you bring comfortable and casual clothing on the trip. Rubber boots, clothing for rain and cold may also be necessary especially on the trip to the Paanajärvi village by boat.

Trips to Viena Folklore Villages are organised in cooperation with the Kainuu Travel Agency.
