Moments of life

On his expeditions across six different decades among kindred peoples – and sometimes farther afield – author and cultural researcher Markku Nieminen has documented ethnographic material through photography, but also moments in which two people meet each other’s gaze. From these images, which hold deep personal meaning for him, he has curated an exhibition to be presented in Juminkeko.
The photographs often feature children, whose openness enabled meaningful conversations with their parents and grandparents during fieldwork focused on cultural traditions.
