Vitali Dobryninin maalaus Juortanasta

After his successful poetry-collecting trip to the village of Vuokkiniemi, Lönnrot went on via Akonlahti to Kuhmo, where he finished his account of the trip at the Juortana house.

Lönnrot's fourth field trip yielded 49 poems, comprising 2.900 lines. The jounrey inspired him to become a runosinger himself and during the return he wrote a long letter in verses to the principal Simo Appelgren:

Tultuani tuonempata,
Kuhmossa kulettuani,
Kanssa kirkolla Kiannan,
Vieläpä etempänäki
Yli raukkojen rajojen,
Wuokkiniemen pitäjässä,
Laulupaikassa paraassa,
Maalla mahtavan Venäjän,
Josta laukun lastattuna
Toin runoja tullessani,
Kirjoitettuja kylissä,
Talosissa tavatuita,

Venehissä veisatuita,

Laulajoilta laulatuita.
